Coastland College marked a year since the launch of its new name and brand by returning to the Dorset County Show, where it welcomed hundreds of visitors over the weekend to its interactive stand.
The College unveiled its new Coastland College identity at last year’s show, bringing together its Weymouth and Kingston Maurward campuses under one distinctive brand. Twelve months on, the College returned with an exciting stand showcasing the breadth of opportunities available across both campuses – and was awarded second place in the agricultural section.
Visitors could get behind the wheel of a state-of-the-art tractor simulator, technology used by students studying agriculture courses at Kingston Maurward, or try out a surf simulator representing the College’s Outdoor Adventure courses and connection to the coast in Weymouth and Portland.
The stand also featured a free competition to win a paddleboard, while floral arrangements created by the College’s Floral Design students added colour and creativity to the display.
Connecting with students old and new
The show provided an opportunity to reconnect with former students and hear stories from the College’s long history. Among those visiting was David Luther, who was one of the founding students of Kingston Maurward College in the late 1940s. David studied alongside 14 other local students and 37 servicemen, before going on to work in farming and later becoming a wholesale butcher.
The Coastland team also enjoyed meeting students who have recently enrolled for the new academic year, as well as prospective students and their families exploring the wide range of courses available. A number of the College’s business partners also visited the stand, highlighting the strong links between Coastland College, local employers and the wider community.
Returning to the Dorset County Show one year after launching the Coastland College name and brand was a really special moment for us.
‘Wonderful to see identity come to life’
Kate Wills, CEO of Coastland College, said: “Returning to the Dorset County Show one year after launching the Coastland College name and brand was a really special moment for us.
“Last year marked the beginning of a new chapter, bringing together our coastal and land-based heritage under one identity. This year, it was wonderful to see that identity come to life through our students, staff, industry partners, former students and the many members of our local community who came to say hello.
“From agriculture and land-based studies to Outdoor Adventure and Floral Design, our stand showcased just some of the exciting opportunities available at Coastland College. We were particularly proud to welcome former students and hear stories of the College’s history, while also meeting the young people who will help shape its future.”
The Dorset County Show provided a fitting opportunity for Coastland College to celebrate its connections with the community while looking ahead to the next chapter of its journey.
