Animal Welfare & Science

Love animals? Make them your future.

Turn your passion for animals into practical skills and experience. You’ll work with a diverse range of animals – including reptiles, aquatics, small mammals, birds of prey and livestock – while developing your knowledge of health, welfare, behaviour, husbandry and science. You’ll learn what it takes to care for animals responsibly and explore where your interests could take you.

Where will I learn?

Kingston Maurward gives you a unique setting for animal-based study, with our wide-ranging animal collections housed in purpose-built enclosures and across the public park of our 750-acre estate, providing many opportunities to learn outside the classroom.

What qualifications can I take?

Courses are available from introductory and Level 1 routes through Level 2 and Level 3, with higher-level study also available in Animal Behaviour, Welfare and Conservation.

Where could it take me?

Progression could include animal care, zoos, wildlife, animal welfare, conservation, veterinary-related careers or further study. Depending on your course and experience, roles can include animal care assistant, animal technician, zoo keeper or wildlife warden.
