Course overview

If you wish to learn the basics and move towards a qualification as a plumber then these courses are for you. The course offers skills and knowledge in a wide range of plumbing and heating engineering aspects.

Entry Requirements

  • Selection is by interview.
  • GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English Language and Maths (or equivalent) or completion of Entry Level 3 Diploma in Basic Construction Skills plus relevant GCSEs or L1 Functional Skills in English and Maths.
  • You must demonstrate an interest and commitment to study.

Course Structure

Course Description

The course provides a taster for those interested in a career in plumbing.

The practical and theoretical subjects will include the fundamentals for the following:

  • Introduction to construction
  • Health and safety
  • Handling and storing materials
  • Carry out plumbing operations.

Assessment

Assessment will take place throughout the course, Plumbing theory will have a written test at the end of each unit. Plumbing practical assessments are provided in a paper based portfolio, the assessments will be undertaken in our workshop following relevant unit training. 

Progression

You can progress from Level 1 to Level 2, both qualifications will improve your prospects of finding employment or apprenticeship training in the plumbing/domestic heating industry. 

Tools/Materials/Books

It is essential that you purchase overalls and safety boots/shoes to wear in the workshop as without these no practical work can be undertaken. A basic tools and materials list will be provided on successful enrolment of the course
