Course overview

In Short

This course is a practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on workplace situations, activities and demands. You will spend time learning both in and outside of college to gain a greater understanding of the many public services, and have the opportunity to meet with a range of employers. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment, or for progression to higher level courses.

Location

Uniformed Protective Services will be based at our Kingston Maurward Campus from 2026. This move allows us to make the most of the campus’ specialist facilities and extensive outdoor space, helping to create the best possible learning experience particularly for the practical elements of the course. 

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade 3 (D) or above including maths and English or level 1 in related subject. Mature students will be assessed by interview. You should be interested in all aspects of public services, outdoor activity and sport.

In addition to this, if you are a talented individual, aged 16-19 and committed to developing your sports performance while studying, you may also be able to participate in our Football Academy.

How does the Academy work?

Academy players will have a timetable with coaching and playing sessions built in. This enables you to study on a full-time course and play/train for the Academy team without missing key lecture time.The Football Academy is coordinated and run by experienced and qualified coaching staff who deliver a first-class football performance programme. ?

  • Excellent training and playing facilities (including 3G artificial pitch)

Academy selection process: To be considered for the Football Academy, you need to attend a formal trial in May where a squad will be selected for the coming year. Players that do not make the Academy squad still have an opportunity to play for the College through the second team.

Assessment

All units are assessed and graded giving an overall grade for the qualification. Assignments will involve individual and group work, and will require full completion of investigations, reports and presentations. 

Progression

You may progress to the Level 3 Public Services BTEC Extended Diploma.
