Course overview
Foresters & arboriculturists care for the nation’s trees in rural, urban, private and public spaces. Be part of this energetic and exciting industry! The Level 2 Forestry & Arboriculture is an ideal way for school leavers to start in the tree industry. This course is a blend of theory and practical sessions and builds on your enthusiasm for this industry. Learn a wide range of skills which will give you opportunities for future study or entry to employment.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs minimum grade 3 including English and maths. You will be required to complete a weekly work placement. You will need a keen interest and enthusiasm in forestry & arboriculture. Tetanus protection is recommended.

Course Description
Units include:
- Health and safety & working in the land and wildlife industry
- Machinery, tools and equipment
- Understanding the environment, conservation and science of trees & plants
- Tree classification and identification
- Tree establishment and woodland management
- Tree felling and ground based operations
- Assisted tree climbing and aerial pruning operations
- Tree work placement and tree work skills
- English and maths for students who do not have GCSE grades 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills.
Progression
Employment in arboricultural, forestry or allied businesses, work with tree surgeons, work with contractors for utility, road, rail and housing tree projects, domestic garden tree work.
