Course overview
This one-year course provides the practical skills and knowledge required to gain employment in the land based engineering industry. Learners develop a range of technical skills and industry experience through classroom learning and an industry relevant work placement.
Classroom sessions cover key principles such as health and safety, machine operation and system management, alongside workshop based learning using a wide range of tools and equipment. Learners have significant opportunities to practise essential engineering skills in land based workshops.
Employment prospects for qualified young people with the right attitude are strong, as the industry is currently experiencing a skills shortage. This course supports progression into servicing and maintaining agricultural machinery, which is needed in the industry. The course is designed to produce students who can operate and maintain machinery to a high standard.
Entry Requirements
• 4 GCSEs at grade 3/D or above, including English and maths
• We will consider progression from the successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant vocational subject at Merit and working towards Level 1 Functional Skills.
• Some farming or land based engineering experience is essential before starting the course, along with the ability to manage written work. A work placement of up to 227 hours must be completed during the year. Attitude to learning is also considered.

Progression
