Entry Requirements
Successful interview, plus: 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above including English Language or equivalent, or a BTEC First Diploma, or other related level 2 qualification at Merit or higher. You should demonstrate an interest in the field of Music Technology, which could be DJing, music production, live sound or music for film and TV, and be prepared to work hard to progress to the next level of the Company. Related work experience or production experience in or out of school would be useful, but not essential.
Course Structure
Course Description
In phases 1 and 2, you will be trained in in the use of technology to create and record music, alongside developing essential skills as a DJ/live performer. Throughout the course there will be extensive opportunities to perform or showcase your productions, beginning with intimate gigs on campus and ultimately leading in phase 3 to your own club nights in the local area and beyond. You will emerge with a valuable blend of creative ability and practical skills, combined with an awareness of how to succeed in the rapidly evolving music business. By the end of the two years you will be equally at home in the recording studio, creating music and sound for media, composing cutting edge electronic music and developing live performances as a DJ or music performer. Assessment
Much of the work is of a practical nature, but there is also written work in the form of notes, projects, class work, reviews and assignments. There are no final exams, as all your work will be continuously assessed by the staff and moderated by an external verifier.
Progression
Level 3 courses are equivalent to three A Levels and give access to a wide range of Higher Education and career options including: musician/performer, music producer, DJ, songwriter, music therapist, private music teacher, classroom teacher/lecturer, composer, sound designer, sound technician, special effects technician, artist manager, event manager, marketing manager, lighting engineer, radio producer, theatre manager, stage manager, administrator, promoter, journalist, music business lawyer, instrument builder/repairer/sales, tour manager, community worker, social media marketing etc.
