In Short

You will be prepared for the high standards required to work in this industry, taking professional qualifications, as well as covering the theoretical work required to become a professional beauty therapist. You will gain work experience in both the College and local beauty salons, and visit trade exhibitions such as Professional Beauty.

Entry Requirements

Level 3 candidates must have a Level 2 VRQ Beauty theory. Selection will be based on interview, successful completion of a trade test (at Merit level) and 60% pass rate in theory exam.  All students must have good punctuality, a good attendance level,  positive attitude to vocational area and if required continue to work towards English and Maths at Grade 4.

Course Structure

Course Description

You will study the following units:

  • Monitor and maintain H&S practice
  • Client care and communication in Beauty related industries
  • Working in beauty related industries
  • Provide body electrotherapy treatments
  • Provide facial electrotherapy treatments
  • Provide body massage treatments
  • Apply individual permanent lashes
  • Contribute to the effective running of a business
  • Provide Indian Head Massage
  • Apply Microdermabrasion 

As part of your qualification you will also undertake five days external work experience in a local salon. Staff can support you in finding placements, completion of work experience is a requirement of your course assessment criteria.

Assessment

You will be continually assessed throughout the course using:

  • Appraisal of practical competence
  • Oral assessment
  • Written tests
  • Portfolio work
  • Assignments

Progression

Additional training in beauty or management can lead to opportunities in specialist salons or as industry consultants.
