Level 3 – BTEC National Diploma in Horticulture

Course overview

This two year course is equivalent to 2 A Levels and is an ideal qualification for school leavers and mature students to learn horticulture at a higher level. It enables those who already have some experience to develop expertise in a wide range of subjects relevant to the industry. Using our fantastic campus facilities, including modern glasshouses, you will gain a broad understanding in a range of horticultural subjects relating to your responsibilities as a professional and including plant identification, the use of trees and ecological planting, the pruning of trees and shrubs and the propagation of edibles, annuals and houseplants plus much more!

The course also provides opportunities to meet with industry experts and potential employers and to showcase your skills to local clients by becoming involved in College-supported community and private projects.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English, maths and a science, OR a relevant Level 2 at Distinction level.

Mature students lacking formal qualifications will also be considered. Enthusiasm, relevant practical experience, a keen and active interest in plants, commercial gardening and landscaping with the ability to cope with practical and written assessment and externally set exams.
