Course overview
Employers are looking for people with practical skills and in-depth knowledge of plants, soils, landscaping and design, coupled with a sound business sense. This one year course, equivalent to 1 and a half A Levels, will help you establish an all round understanding of horticultural principles and practices whilst working and learning in the Grade 2 listed Kingston Maurward gardens.
This course is suitable for anyone interested in a career working within the ‘green’ industries and would appeal to people with many different skill sets and interests – creative, scientific, energetic and entrepreneurial. You will also benefit from work experience where you will make essential contacts within the horticultural industry and perfect your knowledge.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 4or above, including English, maths and a science OR a relevant Level 2 Certificate at Distinction level. Mature students lacking formal qualifications will also be considered. Numeracy and literacy screening assessments will take place. Enthusiasm, relevant practical experience, a keen and active interest in plants, commercial gardening and landscaping with the ability to cope with practical and written assessments and externally set exams.
