Microsoft Office – Excel

Course overview

This qualification is aimed at anyone who wishes to expand and develop their skills using spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, and is broken down into 5 levels for Introduction, Intermediate, Advanced 1, Advanced 2 and Advanced 3.

Each level is 3 hours in total but delivered as three separate one-hour sessions via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and costs £30pp for each hourly session.

Course Description

Introduction

  • Unit 1 – Basic data entry and formatting
  • Unit 2 – Simple calculations and functions
  • Unit 3 – Introduction to Charts, Controlling charts, Sparklines, Adding graphic elements

Intermediate

  • Unit 4 – Manipulating spreadsheet views, Cell addressing, Conditional formatting
  • Unit 5 – Functions 2 – Conditional functions
  • Unit 6 – LOOKUP functions, Naming cells and ranges

Advanced 1

  • Unit 7 – Auditing formulae, Protecting cells
  • Unit 8 – Functions 3 – Text & date functions, Combining functions, Rounding
  • Unit 9 – Pivot Tables, Introduction to Macros

Advanced 2

  • Unit 10 – Data Validation, Outline Features, Working Areas, Creating Excel tables
  • Unit 11 – Managing a project, Gantt Charts, Exploring scenarios – What if analysis
  • Unit 12 – Functions 4 – Statistical Functions

Advanced 3

  • Unit 13: Functions 5 – Nested IF, functions with multiple criteria and Forms*
  • Unit 14: Creating a Dashboard – Introduction and additional tools*^     
  • Unit 15: Creating a Dashboard – Design and create*^   

^Units 14 & 15 assume knowledge of pivot tables and pivot charts; conditional and lookup functions: IF, Nested IFs, COUNTIFS, SUMIFS, INDEX, XMATCH, CHOOSE, XLOOKUP; Conditional Formatting; form controls; charts; sparklines; and outlines.
