Course overview
In Short
This course is for students with EHC Plans who would like to develop their confidence and learn to become more independent. Skills will be developed to help individuals look after themselves; build confidence through teamwork and be involved with the local community. Students will have personalised timetables with individual learning outcomes and an appropriate level of support to help them develop their skills. There is full-time support by a member of staff outside of workshop times, during breaks and to ensure that students get their transport home at the end of the day.
Entry Requirements
No qualifications are required, but students need the drive and commitment to complete the course, work to the best of their abilities and to achieve a good attendance record.

Course Description
Students will gain practical skills through work experience in the College retail shops and garden area.
- Develop communication, writing, money and ICT skills
- Develop skills for the workplace
- Work experience in the College garden area and retail shops
- Engage in conservation and sustainability projects
- Personal grooming and how to care about your appearance for work and social situations
- Develop community participation skills such as getting out and about
- Engage with the world around through meeting people, attending events and visits to various attractions
- Two-night residential outing to have fun and develop team skills
- A chance to take part in activities such as sport, art and cookery.
Assessment
The qualification will be assessed through individual units. The unit credits count towards your final qualification.
Progression
After successfully completing this course, students will progress onto either the Step Into Accessing the Community qualification or they may progress to a full-time course such as Routes into College.
