Hair and Beauty students at Coastland College have raised an impressive £539.10 for the Dorset County Hospital Charity following a successful student-led fundraising event held in February.
The event, organised in collaboration with long-time Coastland College client and fundraiser Jill Wintle, supported the Fortuneswell cancer unit at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.
Held earlier this year at the College’s Signature Academy Hair & Beauty salons, ‘February Fortunes – A Well of Hope’ focused on self-care, wellbeing and positivity, offering guests a range of treatments and activities in a welcoming and uplifting environment.
The initiative was led by Level 3 students, who took full ownership of planning and delivering the event, from developing its theme and branding to coordinating the experience on the day. Their efforts were recognised by attendees, including a special visit from the Mayor of Weymouth.
“We are always so pleased when the local community pulls together to raise money for Dorset County Hospital. We are very grateful to the efforts from Jill and the team at Coastland College with this fantastic event.
“The staff on the Fortuneswell Ward will be delighted to receive this money to make patients’ experiences even better when receiving care at DCH.”
A personal event
Charlie Eaton, Subject Lead for Hair & Beauty at Coastland College, commented: “Jill has been coming to us for years and is always telling us about her fundraising, and she asked if we could help. Our Level 3 students really took charge of the event, coming up with the name and theme. They all contributed and worked really hard. It felt quite personal for them; they all know Jill as a client so it was close to their hearts.”
The cheque was formally presented last week, with students joined by both Jill and representatives from the charity to mark the occasion.
Coastland College said it was “incredibly proud” of the students’ dedication, teamwork and compassion in delivering such a meaningful and successful event.
“The College has been a great friend, they have helped me all the way.”
