Course Overview

Choosing to study A Levels at Coastland College means joining a Sixth Form with a strong record of achievement.

Entry Requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5, including English and ideally a creative subject. You will need a portfolio of your own Art and/or Technology work, a willingness to experiment and express ideas.

Course Structure

Course Description

A Level Art, Craft & Design is all about exploration, creativity and self-expression. You’ll experiment with materials, techniques and ideas across multiple disciplines in this exciting and fast-paced course, before focusing on the areas that inspire you most.

Your first term introduces you to our specialist workshops and studios, including:

  • Traditional Print Studio
  • 3D Workshop & Pottery
  • CAD/CAM and digital suite with Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Textiles & Fashion Workroom

You’ll learn new processes, refine your technical skills and start building a strong portfolio, which will help you at university level and in future careers.

As the course progresses, you’ll develop a Personal Creative Enquiry – a body of work that explores your chosen theme through visual experimentation, research and reflection.

Visits to galleries and museums will expand your understanding of contemporary and historical art, giving you creative insight and inspiration.

Progression

AS Art, Craft, Design students will progress onto A2 Level to develop and explore their studies further, and then on to university, art school or careers.
