Course Structure

Course Description

History helps us understand the world – how power shifts, ideas evolve, and societies are shaped by conflict, leadership and belief.

At Coastland College, you’ll explore defining moments in British and global history, gaining the analytical, research and communication skills that are highly valued by universities and employers alike.

This course is for students who love to question, debate and uncover why events unfolded the way they did – and how they continue to influence our lives today.

You’ll study topics such as:

  • The rise and fall of the USSR as a superpower, and global events that shaped The Cold War in Europe
  • The Early Stuarts and origins of the Civil War, including the reign of James I
  • Russia and its Rulers – how leadership transformed Russia and how changes in power, society and economy shaped one of the world’s most complex nations

Progression

History is an excellent preparation for many degree courses including history, law, politics and journalism, and is especially valuable for a career in teaching. The material you will study would also be useful if you intend to pursue a career in business, banking, the legal professions, local government or the civil service.
