Entry Requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 9-5, plus a minimum grade 7 (A) in Maths. This course is taught in three lessons per week and 100% attendance is required, as well as three hours of home study per week.

Mathematics is at the heart of how we understand the world – from architecture to algorithms, medicine to music.

Studying A Level Maths at Coastland College helps you build logical thinking, analytical ability and problem-solving confidence – skills that open doors to an incredible range of university courses and careers.

You’ll explore pure, applied and statistical mathematics, learning to approach complex problems creatively and communicate your reasoning with precision.

You’ll follow the Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics specification, taught through three 90-minute lessons per week, covering:

  • Pure Mathematics – such as algebra, trigonometry and calculus
  • Statistics – including data presentation and probability, correlation and regression
  • Mechanics – building on GCSE Physics ideas, such as motion and forces, Newton’s Laws, moments and variable acceleration.

Progression

A Level Maths is one of the most versatile and respected qualifications you can achieve. It’s essential for degrees in physics, engineering, computer science, medicine, economics, finance and accountancy.

It’s also valued across business, management and data-driven industries.
