Highly regarded by employers, the BTEC Higher National Engineering for England is a nationally recognised qualification designed to provide you with the skills demanded by industry.  All applicants should have a commitment to study at a higher education level.When redeveloping the HNC in Engineering for England Pearson collaborated with a wide range of students, employers, providers and subject experts to ensure that the new qualification met their needs and expectations.  There is now a greater emphasis on employer engagement and work readiness. The Higher National Certificate in Engineering for England is designed to reflect this increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathwaysThis is a qualification with a  minimum of 120 credits.  Studying at a Higher National Certificate level will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to enhance existing skills or to progress to a professional or managerial career in engineering.  Your first year will build on your existing knowledge of the sector; in the second year you will continue to develop these skills through theoretical and practical projects.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age and have a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering or related Level 3 qualification and/or relevant professional experience.  In addition applicants should hold A* to C grade and/or 9 to 4 in GCSE Maths (or equivalent).  Applicants will be invited for interview.  

Course Structure

Course Description

To achieve the HNC in Engineering for England you will need to complete a minimum of 120 credits.The units are:Engineering Design, Engineering Maths; Managing a Professional Engineering Project (Pearson-set); Mechatronics; Mechanical Principles, Production Engineering for Manufacture; Quality and Process Improvement; Digital Principles

Assessment

The course is predominantly assessed through the completion of large projects that you will undertake both individually and in groups.  Much of the study will require work outside of formal classes, so self-motivation and good time management skills are essential.  As a guideline you are advised that a 15-credit unit approximates to a learning time of 150 hours.

Progression

The HNC in Engineering for England is equivalent to Year 1 of a Degree so many universities will accept students with HNC to Year 2 of a BA/BSc Honours Degree depending on the match of the units to the degree programme in question.UCAS course search https://digital.ucas.com/search will enable you to explore options for courses available throughout the UK.
