In Short
This course is aimed at those interested in a career within the construction sector with a focus on design and surveying. It will ensure that students have the knowledge and skills to progress into employment, an apprenticeship or higher-level study. Future possible career paths are; Architecture, Surveying (Building Condition, Quantity, Land and Measured), Project Management. Entry Requirements
- Selection is by interview
- 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above including English, Maths and Science or a vocational technical qualification at Level 2 at a pass in a relevant subject
- You must demonstrate an interest and commitment to study

Course Description
Year 1 Core Component:Study the following topics:
- Health and safety
- Science
- Measurement
- Building technology
- Information and data
- Digital technology
- Construction mathematical techniques
- Design
- Construction and the built environment industry
- Sustainability
- Relationship management
- Commercial business
- Project management
- Law
- Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment
As part of the T Level qualification you are required to complete at least 315 hours of industry placement which equate to 45 days or 9 weeks. Our placement officers will assist in supporting you to find a suitable industry placement.
Assessment
Year 1: You will be assessed on the core component subject knowledge through completion of:
- Written Examination 1: Science and Building Technology
- Written Examination 2: Construction Industry and Sustainability
- Employer Set Project: Preparing a report in accordance with a client brief and initial designs, preparing designs for the project proposal, producing cost documentation and carrying out research to propose solutions to problems within the scenario.
Complete an end of year project based on the occupations specialist pathway.You will produce a portfolio of evidence responding to a client brief, analyse information, design construction solutions and verify delivery of those construction solutions which is linked into surveying and design for construction and the built environment.
Progression
You will gain a T Level in Construction Design, Surveying and Planning which will enable you to progress onto:Higher Education
- Progress to a Level 4 HTQ Qualification or L4 Standard Apprenticeship at Weymouth College in Construction Management.
- Apply for a Degree Apprenticeship with local and national employers
- Pursue a foundation degree or university degree at university
The T level will allow you to progress into industry to further develop your skills and knowledge working towards the following possible career paths:Site/Project/Estate Management, Survey/Surveying Technician, Architect/Architectural Technician, Construction Design Coordinator, Property Development, Site Planning and Coordination.
