Weymouth Campus has a purpose built state-of-the-art media centre, The Hive. It houses excellent facilities including a HDTV Multicam studio and gallery, editing suites using professional Adobe software, broadcast quality sound studio, extensive media-based computer software and hardware, and a dedicated digital production suite incorporating multicamera tapeless HD TV studio.

Entry Requirements

  • Selection is by an interview
  • 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (D) and above including maths and English or a Level 1 Foundation Certificate.
  • Portfolio evidence of your own creative work in art, design or photography is useful, although not essential.
  • Applications are welcome from mature students and a good portfolio and/ or previous experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications. 

Course Structure

Course Description

You will learn about the wide range of jobs across the media industries; how media gets messages across to audiences; and the process for making ?products? such as television programmes, internet pages and radio. By the end of the year you will have begun to gain familiarity with several kinds of digital media software for making video, audio and web products. You will also have learnt the basics of using video cameras, digital stills cameras and sound recording equipment. 

Assessment

Assessment is mainly based on continuous coursework, but with an externally assessed key skill portfolio. 

Progression

The course is designed for progression to the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma in Media, which can, in turn, lead to higher education and work in the media industry.
