The Hive media centre is a dedicated digital production suite incorporating multicamera tapleless HD TV studio and radio production facilities. Its excellent facilities including state-of-the-art HDTV multi-camera studio and gallery, editing suites using professional Adobe software, broadcast quality sound studio, extensive media-based computer software and hardware.

Entry Requirements
Selection is by an interview. You must demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to learn. You will need one of the following:
- 5 GCSEs at grade C including English, maths or equivalent, or Level 2 Diploma at Merit
- Enthusiasm, commitment and desire to learn
- A good reference
To continue to the Year 2 Extended Diploma, the 90 Credit Diploma must be successfully completed first. Applications are welcome from mature students and a good portfolio and/or previous experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications. A good reference will be required.Other information such as assessment results, relevant experience and portfolio material may be taken into consideration, at the College’sdiscretion.
Course Structure
Course Description
The emphasis of the course is practical but you will be expected to produce evidence of thorough planning. From the outset you will be receiving media training and be able to practice your new skills.Year 1 90 Credit Diploma units:
- Pre-production Techniques
- Communication Skills for Creative Media
- Research Techniques
- Understanding the TV and Film Industry
- Understanding Video Technology
- Video Editing Techniques
- Factual TV Production Techniques
- Motion Graphics and Compositing Video ?
- Advertisment for Television ? Music Video Production.
During the course you will:
- Research, produce and edit videos, TV programmes and short films
- Produce a music video, documentary, fictional production and various other genres
- Work with clients from the local area
- Record live TV programmes using multi-camera techniques.
In addition, you will find out about the media industry and products, looking at such issues as: working practices, unions, the law, ownership, and developing technologies. You will explore the ways in which directors use film to create meaning, allowing you to gain insights into how the film industry is organised and to learn about issues and debates addressed by some films.
Assessment
This course is delivered through lectures, workshops and tutorials. Much of the work is delivered and assessed through production projects, so a high level of commitment to working on these, over and above the timetabled sessions is essential. Assessment is based on continuous performance, as well as on the quality of the work you produce. You must complete all parts of the course to gain the Diploma, all students will be re-interviewed at the end of the first year for suitability for progression to the second year of the course. Those deemed unsuitable, or who feel their interests lie elsewhere, can still qualify for the 90 credit Diploma, which is the equivalent of 1 A Level and 1 AS Level.
Progression
The UAL Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology – (Film & Television Pathway) is fully recognised for progression to higher education and is considered as a pre-entry qualification for specialist media-related degrees or industrial training. Students who completed this course have gained places on courses such as BA (Hons) Television Production, BA (Hons) Editing and Post Production and BSC (Hons) Broadcast Technology, at institutions such as Southampton Solent University, Bournemouth University and Ravensbourne University. Many of our former students are now working in the media industry and elsewhere in the cultural sector.
